Joy of Whitby “Old Pump House”

The Old Pump House is SJ71’s first foray into heritage conservation.

The project involves restoring a 2700 square foot stone heritage building and adding another 8000 square feet in a style and using materials that are consistent with the historical character of the original. The building will house a restaurant/bar and meeting facilities, serving local Whitby residents and businesses while also drawing tourists to the Whitby waterfront. The Old Pump Station will complement existing waterfront attractions like the lighthouse, marina and Heydenshore Pavilion.

The character of the original 1904 pump house will be maintained through restoration of the stone walls, windows and roof. The addition will match in both materials and design. When combined with outdoor patios, the addition will increase the site’s utility and take advantage of lakeside views.

Green roofs and energy efficient fixtures throughout will contribute to sustainability. Exterior landscaping, walkways & bike paths, warming huts and cobblestone parking will complete the waterfront experience.
